At Learning Pathways, we offer three programs relating to literacy under the Lindamood-Bell umbrella. Our delivery of each program is thorough and follows each program to the letter as prescribed by Lindamood-Bell. We also understand that budget is of great concern to many families. That’s why we strive to keep our fees at a reasonable rate–much less than that of a Lindamood-Bell center without sacrificing any quality. At Learning Pathways, your student will work with highly-qualified trainers, each of whom has gone through rigorous training in each method.
Lindamood-Bell is direct reading instruction including LiPS®, Seeing Stars® and Visualizing and Verbalizing®. Following is a detailed description of each program:
- LiPS® develops phonemic awareness through the use of oral-motor movements to identify the sounds of individual phonemes within words. It does this through the use of a multi-sensory approach to reading. A student is taught to feel the sounds in his/her mouth thereby enabling them to decode words leading to greater fluency.
- Seeing Stars® is used for improved reading and spelling. It focuses on building a student’s symbol imagery or their ability to visualize and recall letters and sight words. This helps to develop phonemic awareness, which leads to proficiency in decoding and sight word recognition.
- Visualizing and Verbalizing® is designed to develop receptive and expressive language. In it, a student develops the ability to create a mental image of what they hear or read and to see “the big picture.” This is essential for comprehending what is read. The skills acquired in Visualizing and Verbalizing will greatly aid a student in critical thinking, planning and organizing and sequencing.
